Foolad Mahan crowns AFC Futsal championship

Iran's Foolad Mahan Sepahan team has won the crown for the inaugural AFC Futsal Club Championship after beating al-Sadd of Qatar 5-2 at Isfahan's Pirouzi Stadium.

The 36-year-old Vahid Shamsaie opened the scoring in the second minute of the Friday match. Minutes later Mohammad Taheri drove a shot into the net roof of the Qatari side, putting the tournament hosts ahead by two goals.

Drogba crowned African Footballer of the Year

Ivory Coast captain and Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has been crowned the African Footballer of the Year for the second time in his career.

Drogba claimed the title on his 32nd birthday, after beating the 29-year-old Cameroonian forward Samuel Eto'o and fellow Chelsea player Michael Essien of Ghana, who came second and third respectively.

Al Hilal beats Mes FC 3-1 in AFC-CL

Saudi Arabia's Al Hilal has snatched a 3-1 victory against Mes FC in the Asian Champions League Group D at the King Fahd International Stadium.

The hosts, coached by Erirc Gerets, took an early lead through Swedish midfielder Christian Wilhelmsson who broke the deadlock after just three minutes on Wednesday night.

In AFC-CL, Al Ain earns first point at Sepahan

Iran's Sepahan was held to its second successive draw in the AFC Champions League on Wednesday, failing to score against bottom-placed Al Ain.

"We were lucky not to concede a goal in the first half but [we] dominated the game in the second half thanks to some technical changes," Sepahan manager Amir Qalenoi said.

Iran claims World Junior Taekwondo title

Iran has won the title in the men's division at the 8th WTF World Junior Taekwondo Championships held in Tijuana, Mexico after 16 years.

The Iranian athletes clinched the title by earning three gold medals, one silver and one bronze at the Gymnasium of the High Performance Sports Center in city of Tijuana on Tuesday.
