We are running out of cash

Dear Reader,

It's that time of the month again where we need to get ready for paying our web hosting company. Pathetic really how - in spite of the thousands of readers that visit this site every day - we struggle each month to raise even the funds needed for our dedicated server hosting package, leave alone hiring editorial staff to free up time for research and writing. So if you haven't already done so recently, go to the donations form underneath the red stop sign now and chip in with whatever you can spare: $5, $20, $50, $100 or more. Or better even, use the same form to set up a subscription. Something like $50 per year, $20 per quarter or $8 per month would be great.

Happy notes for trapped Chilean miners

Family members of the 33 trapped miners in Chile have sent their loved ones happy notes, citing no mention of how long their ordeal is going to last.

Some sent jokes; others wrote tender noted like "keep the faith," and "I love you, Papa," said AFP on Tuesday.

Rampaging bull injures 40 in Spain

A bull has injured 40 people during a bull-leaping contest in the northern region of Navarra in Spain after it leapt over the fence and ran into the spectators.

The incident took place in the Tafalla arena where the animal jumped 10 meters over a fence that guarded the watching crowd.

Flooding kills 15 across Europe

At least 15 people have been killed and thousands of others have been evacuated as heavy rain and flooding disrupt traffic and cause power outages in central Europe.

Polish officials announced on Sunday that at least three people have been killed after rivers overflew and a dam burst, submerging towns in southwestern Poland.
