IMF predicts faster economic recovery in Africa

The economies of African nations are recovering better from the global economic crisis than what the International Monetary Fund (IMF) had predicted.

"We expected the Asian markets to recover quicker than the African countries, but we are surprised even the African economies are recovering faster than we expected," Strauss-Kahn told reporters in Nairobi.

Nigeria's state oil firm on brink of extinction

Heavy losses and liabilities are pushing Nigeria's giant state oil firm toward annihilation, its top official warns.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation's (NNPC) Managing Director Mohammed Barkindo said on Friday that in 2008, with a negative account balance of 326 billion naira ($2.1 billion), the corporation was technically bankrupt.
